Architectural Details - Windows | Markus Hattstein

Descriere

Windows serve as the eye of the house. They provide contact between the internal world of a building and the world outside - windows permit light, air and glances to move into the space but also establish a connection to the outer world for all people inside. Beside these functional values windows always act as distinctive elements of a building’s appearance and style. They are an important part of the architectural message a house is transmitting. This copiously illustrated book presents a varied selection of windows from Europe’s architectural capitals from Amsterdam to Zurich. A plenitude of high-quality photographs reveals the intriguing diversity of style, proportions and color in European window design of all epochs and areas. They document the entire scope of window framing and glazing from ancient to brand new, from frugal to pompously ornate, from functional to playful. The volume is part of a series, which is focused not on prominent buildings at large but on ingenious and extraordinary details.
