The Kentucky Sheepskin stud girth is a long girth for the jumping saddle with a wide protective plate under the belly and a removable artificial sheepskin cover. It is meant for show jumpers who want the protection of a stud guard combined with a soft layer against the skin. The cover comes off with hook-and-loop fastening and can be washed at 30 °C. About this stud girth Kentucky itself calls this model a stud girth (Sheepskin Stud Girth). What sets it apart from a standard jumping girth is the wide protective plate in the centre. It sits under the belly, where the front legs tuck up over a fence. Kentucky designed the girth for comfort and safety when jumping, and to limit the risk of shoes or studs catching your horse. The girth has a cover in artificial sheepskin, so not real wool but a synthetic fleece. It is attached with strong hook-and-loop fastening, so you can take it off after a sweaty ride and wash it separately. Underneath is a synthetic leather strap that does not absorb dirt, sweat or water and does not discolour, with a protective EVA inner layer. The girth is anatomically shaped, giving more room to the shoulders and elbows, and has elastic at both ends. For schooling equipment there are 3 D-rings for draw reins and a buckle to attach a breastplate directly to the girth. Within the Kentucky range at Maddelin, this is the fleece-covered stud girth in a classic finish.
