Reader's Digest and The Royals : A Jubilee Celebration of the British Royal Family

Descriere

The Reader’s Digest Magazine has a long and close association with the Royal Family. This book, reproduced from the magazine archives, features the best of those accounts. There are first-person recollections – such as a Saskatchewan man’s memories of the royal visit of George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Moose Jaw, Canada in 1939, profiles of family members and even a special Silver Jubilee Supplement. These are royal writings from less frenetic decades, featuring memorable insights: Prince Charles, queueing for his 5s 6d dinner at Cambridge University beneath a portrait of his ancestor, Henry VIII; the late Queen Mother “laying a foundation stone as if she has just descovered a new and delightful way of spending an afternoon” plus surprising details of the household (from 1957); “Sometimes, perhaps one evening in 20, she and Philip can dine alone.”
