Our planet contains countless treasures both of natural beauty and of the work of humankind, portrayed from above and immortalized thanks to the art and skill of the world?s best photographers: the deep canyons of North America, the dense forests of South America, the dizzying peaks of the Himalayas and the Alps, the pearls of sand and the atolls of Polynesia, the burning furnaces of still-active volcanoes, the immense glaciers of the poles, the lunar colors of the boundless. Add to this the medieval villages of Europe, the ancient cities of the Maya and the Romans, the pyramids, the great works of humankind, the ever-expanding metropolises of the Third Millennium. Thanks to this extraordinary study, the perspectives, designs, lights, and colors of an entire planet are encompassed within a single glance. Short illustrative texts introduce the individual chapters, each dedicated to a peculiar element of the Earth?s treasures. ENRICO LAVAGNO is an expert in Oriental cultures.
